Square feet of siding installed per man-hour on Hardie jobs, and what moves it: job size, return trips, crews, builders, product and division. Cascade Build. Jobs with a Siding task completed Jan 2023 to Sep 18, 2026.
| Job size | Jobs | Sq ft / crew-hr | Sq ft / man-hr | Crew | Days on site | Pay / sq ft |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| < 1,000 sq ft | 1,452 | 28.5 | 7.0 | 4.2 | 2.0 | $1.75 |
| 1,000 – 2,000 | 423 | 39.7 | 9.7 | 4.4 | 2.7 | $1.66 |
| 2,000 – 4,000 | 755 | 70.6 | 16.2 | 5.2 | 4.0 | $1.55 |
| 4,000 + | 317 | 96.7 | 18.8 | 6.0 | 5.0 | $1.51 |
Half of Hardie jobs are under 1,000 sq ft: siding accents on stucco homes. Those jobs cost 16% more per sq ft in labor and install at a third of the pace of a full-siding building. For reference, LP jobs run 20 sq ft per man-hour overall, but they are three times larger; within the same size band LP is within 5 to 10 percent of Hardie on small jobs and up to 29 percent ahead on 2,000 to 4,000 sq ft jobs.
The index divides each job's sq ft per crew-hour by the median for its brand and size band, then takes the group median. It removes the job-size effect so a crew that only gets small accent jobs is not penalized.

32 crews qualify; the middle of the table is in the CSV. Two now-inactive crews rank above everyone on crew-hours but have no headcount on file: Amilcar Sosa (102 jobs, index 2.01, one-day jobs) and Rigoberto Sierra-Arias (30 jobs, 2.27). Per person, Hilton Medina's three-man crew is the standout at 33 sq ft per man-hour, roughly 2.5× the Hardie median. Armando Segundo-Garcia's 8-person headcount and 3.6 sq ft per man-hour look like a roster problem rather than a crew problem.

Meritage and Fieldstone homes sit open six to seven days against a 2.5-day norm; Toll Brothers four. Those are the builders where sequencing with other trades, not crew speed, is most likely eating the hours. Visionary combines slow jobs with the highest pay per sq ft.

Board and batten and 8¼" lap install at the same pace once size is accounted for. ColorPlus jobs sit open six days against 2.5, the clearest product effect in the data, though 158 jobs is a modest cell. Trim brand makes no difference. Buildings look faster only because they are big.

Big crews move the most wall per day; small crews are the most productive per person. LP held an index near 1.00 in every year while Hardie drifted from 1.12 in 2023 to 0.86 so far in 2026. Split jobs read slow because they are the jobs that ran long enough to cross a Thursday payroll close (first task closed Monday or Friday in 81% of them), so the split is a symptom of a long job, not a cause. The 42 two-crew jobs are the big, hard ones where a second crew was added for speed.
